Shaken then Stirred Up

Posted by Cara Mumford on Thursday, March 20, 2014, In : "When It Rains"

There are some events that shake us to our core. For me, one such event happened on December 6, 1989. The Montreal Massacre.  I remember getting off the bus on a bitterly cold morning before class on December 7 (I didn’t have a TV to see the news the night before). I remember a group of women huddled together in front of the newspaper boxes, reading one paper, silent with shock.

“Man kills 14 women in Montreal.”

But this is Canada! I thought, back when I thought that made a difference. S...

When sleeping women wake, mountains move: #IdleNoMore

Posted by Cara Mumford on Friday, December 28, 2012, In : "When It Rains"
As a Canadian who believes in democracy, I am beyond frustrated by Harper and his cronies running rough shod over our political system. When you have a majority government, you have a responsibility to govern for ALL of the people, not just the constituents who voted for you. But Harper's Conservatives apparently feel no such responsibility. As Elizabeth May said, "No previous Privy Council in the history of this country has ever equated an amendment to a bill between first reading and royal ...

Thanks to my supporters... here comes the Rain!

Posted by Cara Mumford on Friday, September 7, 2012, In : "When It Rains"
I'm currently working on post-production for "When It Rains," my film for the Stolen Sisters Digital Initiative. I am honoured that the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival commissioned this film, and grateful to the Ontario Arts Council for funding, but I would not be able to complete this film without the generous support of Chris Krieger, Janice Krieger, Bob Mumford, Darmody Mumford and Andrea Wiwchar. So thank you all! (Production still featuring dancer Sandra Lamouche.)

Neil Gaiman Quote

Posted by Cara Mumford on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, In : "When It Rains"
Was just thinking how lucky I was this past weekend to work with people who had all three of those qualities. (You can watch and/or read Neil Gaiman's full commencement address on the University of the Arts website... and I highly recommend that you do!)

Weekend Filming

Posted by Cara Mumford on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, In : "When It Rains"
We filmed the Toronto portion of "When It Rains" this weekend in graffiti alley. I ended up with a great crew and will have some amazing footage! I also learned many lessons along the way, as with every film I make. The main lesson I learned on this one is to bring people on board earlier in the process, especially the Director of Photography. I wish I'd known Elisa Iannacone, my DP, back when I was grant writing for the film. Same thing with Production Manager Jeryn Daly. As it is, only Lead...

Pinterest as a Tool for Filmmakers

Posted by Cara Mumford on Friday, March 30, 2012, In : "When It Rains"
I recently read Sheri Candler's post about Using Pinterest as a tool for your film marketing, and was intrigued. Not that I need another networking site, but the idea that it's based on visuals was appealing since filmmaking is a visual medium. After checking out the site ever so briefly, I asked for, and received, my invitation to Pinterest and quickly started pinning. It's fun... and a little addictive!

While I have ended up setting up some boards reflecting my personal tastes (purple claw f...
